Chapter 1:The New Era



I awake on a beach, unfamiliar with everything that surrounds me. I see a bright object in the sky. Its glow gives the world around me light. I am holding some sort of object and try to stroke it. OW! It cut me. I already don`t like it. But for some reason I know I have to keep it. Wait... what is this in my head? These sounds, and feelings. They are words. I know that I need to learn how to be able to have me and other beings around me hear them. So I open my mouth and attempt to speak. Nothing. I try again. This time a faint squeak. I try one more time. And now I finally say a word, no, a sentence. Or is it a question. Well it doesn`t matter, what I said was, " Who am I?"

A sound comes from behind me. Another creature? If it is intelligent, I am prepared to speak with it. A strange hairy thing with tusks and a pointed snout comes out. It appears to be bigger than I am. However it might be someone intelligent. I greet it saying," Hello." Then out of nowhere, it charges at me! Instinctively, I lift the object I`m holding in my hand . The beast hits the object and reels back in pain. I know now that whatever this thing is, it is some sort of weapon, I am guessing. I lift it up again just in case this monster decides to charge at me again. I`m pretty sure this thing won`t be trying to be my friend.

It snorts at me. Probably ready to charge again. But then a strange small piece of metal speeds at me from behind the beast, only barely missing me. Another one comes and I lift my blade to block it somehow, it does. Jumping from the bushes, a yellow figure wearing gray armor appears. He is carrying a strangely shaped weapon and points it at me. " Get away from him stranger!" he says. This being can talk. I must greet him. Once again I say, "Hello." He still has his weapon pointed at me, with an angry look in his eyes. " You`ve harmed Koto. You bastard!" he shouts as he launches another metal piece at me. I block it again, but they keep coming. Surprisingly I block each and every one. I feel angry at this being. How dare he attack me when I tried to befriend him. Suddenly, I feel ten times warmer, but I`m not in pain. He notices this somehow and lowers his weapon. That`s when I finally discover that a light is illuminating from me. I look down and I`m on fire! I am not frightened though. It gives me a feeling of energy. I am prepared for him to attack me again but he only lowers his weapon and asks, " Are you a toa?"

A few minutes ago I was fighting this person. Now, I am making conversation. Apparently the beast that attacked me was his pet, Koto . I apologized for hurting him after hearing that he was to die of old age any time now. The owner`s name by the way was Hewkii. He is some sort of stone toa. When he told me this I was really confused. I don`t even know what a toa is, so I lie and pretend that I do. However that was a bad choice. He asks me, " Are you a toa? I asked earlier but you didn`t answer." I look at him and simply say," I don`t know." " HEY! HEWKII!" shouts a voice that came from the sky. Only seconds after I heard the noise, a green being in green and silver armor holding two weapons, that looked like a mixture of Hewkii`s and mine, appeared. The stranger must be one of the other toa that Hewkii spoke of. " Hey Matoro... Whoah?  Who`s this guy?" said the toa. Hewkii leans towards the other toa`s ear and whispers something to him. When Hewkii finished whispering, leaning back, the other toa seemed to act more hospitable. " Well, welcome to Voya-Nui. Not one of the best vacation spots, but welcome anyway." said the toa," Oh. And my name`s Kongu. Toa Kongu."

Kongu was very energetic... and somewhat annoying. He kept talking and talking and talking, that would almost make me regret befriending him. But it was still enjoyable to be around him. Then, while walking, Kongu remembered what he was sent to tell Hewkii,    " Oh, wait! I just remembered. Matoro sent me to tell you that Turaga Jovan wants you."  " Turaga Jovan wants me? Crap. He must of found out that it was me and Kago that raided the fruit stash last night." Hewkii said. " That was you?! Aw... nice one man!" Kongu exclaimed happily.

Minutes later we reached the village. It was small. Very small. The homes were basically hollow rocks. There was one structure that was bigger than the rest though. It was the one we were approaching. Once there Hewkii and Kongu motioned to me to wait outside. The moment they went inside I could already hear Hewkii saying, " It wasn`t me. It was Kago!" Then I heard an a series of clicks and tweets. In response another voice spoke as if it were translating the clicks and tweets. Though I couldn`t understand what he was saying, I knew it was about me because seconds later Hewkii came out and said,  " Turaga Jovan... wants to see you."

I entered the small dome and saw three people sitting inside: Kongu, a white being reminiscent of Hewkii and Kongu, and a withered old figure that sat in what looked like a throne but also a normal chair. But what frightened me most about this person was that he didn`t speak. He clicked and tweeted. That`s when I knew what that mumbling was. " Turaga Jovan asks what your name is." says the white toain a quiet voice which I identified as the mumbling. " My name is..." but that`s all I say. I can`t remember my name. The turaga sees this and does another series of clicks and tweets. The white toa translates, " Turaga Jovan sees you are a confused being, new to this world. So he accepts you into our village." He says this with a somewhat angry look. He whispers to the Turaga in a questionable and angry tone. But the Turaga still stays with his decision... I think. Then, the ice toa rudely says, " Now leave us."

Walking from the building I ask Hewkii," Who was that toa?" " Oh, him. That was just Matoro. He`s a bit harsh sometimes but he always has the best interests for us." Hewkii explains. " Or maybe he`s pissed about our new friend taking his place as team leader." Kongu says. Hewkii replies," Yeah. Maybe." They both begin to laugh. I interrupt their joke and ask," What about me?" Realizing what they`ve just said they immediately keep quiet. But I have known them long enough to know they can`t stay quiet forever. They both continue to tell jokes and give me a tour of the village after a while.

About thirty minutes later Hewkii finally says," Well, that's our little village. Enjoy your stay." " And always remember to piss off Matoro anytime you can." Kongu adds. They both laugh hysterically at Kongu`s joke and walk away. Now, I`m alone. I can see a matoran walking by, but I`m still alone. I see a trunk where a tree was cut down and sit on it. I just sit there, waiting. Waiting for something interesting to happen. Then I see her. A blue figure gracefully walking around the matoran huts, humming a soothing melody. That`s when she sees me. Walking up to me with a smile on her face she asks,    " Who are you? I`ve never seen you before." Something inside me is telling me to be extremely honest with her, so I reply, " I don`t know." She giggles, amused by what I said. " Well of course you have to know. Then you couldn`t even be a person." she says. I find that I can`t speak. This beauty of a person is talking to me, staring at me, freezing me on spot with those glorious eyes. Luckily Kongu ran up and interrupted us saying," Hey Hahli. What`s up?" Hahli. This beauties name was Hahli. " Hey Kongu. Can you tell me who this is. I can only guess that he`s already met you." Hahli says. " Oh, him? He doesn`t know." Kongu replies. Hahli finds this shocking, " Are you serious! He doesn`t even know who he is?" " Yep! Turaga Jovan said to leave him be though." Kongu says. " Oh. Okay. Bye!" she says to us as she walks away, smiling.

However, thoughts of her were the least of my worries seconds later. A row of the metal pieces, similar to Hewkii`s weapon, hit a matoran right through the head. Another group of these objects appear but in a more closed group, hitting another matoran. The village is under attack! I look in the direction that they came from and see a group of six demon-like monsters appear from a portal. That portal... it looks familiar. But I can`t concentrate on that one thought forever as I see Kongu, Hewkii, Hahli, Matoro, and black toa, jump at these new enemies. They are out-numbered by one. So I guess it`s time for me to see if I`m a toa or not.

I`m very annoyed. Just because some pitiful rakshi couldn`t destroy the portal doesn`t mean we have to. Me and my teammates, Vezok, Thok, Zaktan, Avak, and Reidak, are on our way to destroy some portal on the eastern edge. I however doubt we should even obey Vezon. We are planning to overthrow him anyway. But still, it will be good to see one more explosion before we start a little tyranny. " Vezon was right Hakann, look!" our ice piraka, Thok, says. It is enourmous! No doubt that it will make a decent explosion. Suddenly Zaktan jokingly pushes Reidak towards the portal, Reidak however back-flips away from it. " What`s wrong Reidak? Scaredof another world?" Zaktan scoffs. " No I`m not! Man I could snap you in two right now!" Reidak shouts. He`s not really the smartest of the group. " Then why don`t you go in? " Zaktan says. I must intervene now before things get out of hand. " Fine I will!" Reidak says. I shout, " Reidak! Stay where you are!" Of course he doesn`t listen and jumps through. " What the hell was that!!!" I shout at Zaktan. He replies," I was just playing around. We`ll just have to go in and get him... maybe even kill a creature or two." Now that interests me. " Fine, we`ll all go in and get Reidak." I say. Seconds later we`re surrounded by a disgusting light after jumping into the portal. It is trying to engulf us, but we fight back. It is a long, agonizing ascent. Now we`re in a forest, Reidak is right next to us. I try to speak with him but find he is entranced. I copy his glance and see a village of small creatures. I get an idea, a fun idea. I begin to shot at the small people and kill one. Avak shoots another and hits it. Then to our surprise taller figures jump out at us, looking for a fight. My team immediately begins to fight them. But there`s another one of the tall warriors running up. Weilding an extremely large blade. There`s an inscription on it that I try to read. It says that the blade is called the... SUVA!!! Oh no...

I see one of the enemy not fighting so I run at him. He sees me and stares at my weapon. Suddenly he is shocked about something on my blade. I take this as a chance to attack him. I jump up and bring my weapon down on him. But when I look up, he isn`t there. I turn around see him aiming his gun at me. Looking at it I find out that it looks exactly like Hewkii`s weapon. He fires his weapon and I block all of the bullets with my sword. My agility kicks in now for I am blocking his bullets while back-flipping, tumbling, and even balancing on my blade itself dodging his attacks. I jump at him and successfully destroy his weapon. Victory is mine!

This being is powerful. He has wrecked my weapon and I`m powerless to stop him. I can see that my team is having a similar situation. We cannot win. This light world is weakening us. My opponent is charging at me. I close my eyes and hope I die quickly.

He`s waiting for me to kill him. I`ll definitely prove that I`m a toa. Victory is mine!

Then suddenly, my team and I are transported to Lord Vezon`s throne room. And there he is, staring at us from his throne. " So I take it that the portal is gone. Or that you were bested by a bunch of worms. How dare you lose in a battle!!!" shouts Lord Vezon.  " One of them has  the Suva my lord." I say. " Yes I know. But that toa only fought you. The rest of you fought horribly!" shouted Vezon. In his defense, Thok said, " We were in a dimension of light. The dimension weakened us." " Oh. But soon there will only be one dimension. Where all of the others are linked to ours. And then you shall fight them and kill them. So I take back what I said. Leave the portal alone. And kill every living thing that goes near it." Vezon says to us," Well, are you going to beg for scraps? MOVE!"

The Piraka leave. Finally I can plan the ressurection . I can bring back the destroyer. I can rule along him. And by Brutaka`s black heart, I shall not fail! This Vezon swears!


The enemy disappears. We won!  Now I am a true toa-hero! The black toa walks up to me and says," Hey, I`m Nuparu. Nice fightin` out there newbie." Newbie! I am angry at him for his remark. But I can`t stay angry for long. The matoran held a celebration for us that night. It was a great feast. But best of all , I was praised for my masterful swordsmanship that apparently bested the other toa`s skills. Two hours after the celebration began Turaga Jovan spoke to Matoro and told hi to make a speech," Matoran of Voya-Nui! Turaga Jovan has decided that leadership of the Toa Inika goes to the new toa!" the matoran cheer at this speech. Through the noise I ask Hewkii," Are we the Toa Inika?" " Well yeah, new leader." Then Matoro shouted out, " Would our new leader stand and make a speech?" Suddenly the gaze of all the matoran and toa were on me. I couldn`t think of what to say so I just stood up and said," I will gladly lead the Toa Inika, as their toa of fire." Hewkii told me that that was probably the element I was." And I will lead my team unless my name isn`t..." then I remember that I don`t have a name. So I must make one for myself and fast. Think... think... wait! I know what my name is! It`s," Toa Jaller!"

He`s found out his name. Good. Now it is time for me to reveal myself. I won`t like how this will effect the world. But I know it won`t be good. I grab the Dual and stand up. Today Toa Jaller is born. But tomorrow, Toa Vakama returns.
